Abhinandan Banerjee is a national & international award-winning Indian film director, creator, screenwriter, author, comics writer, illustrator, advertising professional, and graphic designer. Abhinandan is also a published author, and essayist. His stories have been made into shorts, feature films & platform originals.
His debut film The Cloud and the Man (Manikbabur Megh) had started it’s festival journey by receiving the special mention by the jury at the NFDC Film Bazaar, 2021, followed by the world premiere in Tallinn. It opened the First Feature Film competition at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, 2021.The Indian premiere of the film happened at 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), 2021. ‘Manikbabur Megh’(The Cloud & The Man) was part of the prestigious Indian Panorama at the IFFI. The film had its North American premiere at the 37th Santa Barbara Film Festival. The film was in the Jeffery C. Barbakow International Cinema competing with 11 other films from all over the world. The film was part of the prestigious Taipei Golden Horse Fantastic Film Festival (金馬影展 TGHFF) 2022 being the only Indian film in the edition line up. The film was also part of the Kaleidoscope section at 26th International Film Festival of Kerala. The film has been declared as one of the top 10 Indian Films of 2021 by Fipresci India. It is the only Bengali film in the list of top 10 films of 2021 that are in the running for the Fipresci-India Grand Prix. Abhinandan’s ‘Manikbabur Megh'(The Cloud & The Man) is the only Asian film competing for the Firebird Award in Young Cinema Competition (World) at the 46th 香港國際電影節 Hong Kong International Film Festival. The film is also officially in competition at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, 2022.
Recently, Abhinandan’s ‘Manikbabur Megh’(The Cloud & The Man) also won the coveted NETPAC award for Best Film, at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival. With all these feathers on the cap, the festival run of the film is still going on.
Marichjhapi, his next collaboration venture with Bauddhayan Mukherji and Little Lamb Films has been well received internationally, It was chosen to represent India at the Asian Project Market at Busan 2019 and Cinéfondation L’Atelier at the Cannes Film Festival 2020.
Currently, Abhinandan is working on his books & graphic novels, creating multiple web series & films for leading national & international platforms, writing screenplays for his next features, and growing his beard.
